Will T.J. Watt apologize to Myles Garrett for DPOY tweet? Here's what Steelers star said image

After Cleveland Browns star edge rusher Myles Garrett demanded an apology from his Pittsburgh Steelers counterpart before the two teams met last Thursday, T.J. Watt shrugged off his remarks and is focusing on football.

With reporters asking him about the long-running rivalry between himself and Garrett that culminated in the latter winning Defensive Player of the Year in 2023, Watt has decided to provide clarity on the tweet that Garrett took offense to.

Watt famously tweeted a semi-ambiguous spoiler shortly before the award was announced at last year’s NFL Honors, which the Steelers star did not attend. Watt simply tweeted: “Nothing I’m not used to.”

Nine months later, Garrett brought it up.

“No, he didn’t say nothing to me,” Garrett said of the tweet before the Steelers played the Browns in Week 12. “He’s got to apologize to me when I see him.

On Friday, Watt again clarified the intent behind his tweet, but he did not offer the apology Garrett was looking for.

“It’s more so the voting and how that all happened is where we were upset with,” Watt said. “It’s nothing to do with Myles Garrett as a person or as a player. I think he’s a hell of a player. It’s more so the voting system and what you need to do to get those things. That’s what I’m not focused on this year.”

Clearly, T.J. is not focused on awards or accolades at the moment, but rather on his football team that is still holding onto first place in the tough AFC North despite the loss to the Browns.

Yet, the Wisconsin native made it clear that even when he was focused on awards during the last offseason, he meant no disrespect towards Garrett and was rather criticizing the awards system itself.
