Dallas Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey is confident of beating Justin Tucker’s record 66-yard field goal in just his second NFL season and even believes he can make one from 70 yards.
Aubrey has become one of the best kickers in the NFL despite only being signed in 2023, and due to his ability to convert from long range he’s now the No. 1 choice when drafting that position in fantasy football. The consistency at which he completes kicks from over 50 yards is unprecedented and he’s already converted two from 60 or more yards this season.
The 29-year-old nailed a 60-yard attempt in Thursday’s win over the New York Giants, and in Week 3 he made a 65-yard kick to set a new record for the second-longest field goal in NFL history. Now, Aubrey is looking to make history and move clear of Baltimore Ravens kicker Tucker who has held the all-time record since Sept. 26, 2021.

Aubrey oozed confidence during an exclusive chat with Mirror U.S. Sports, and when asked if he could break the record this season he said: “Yeah, absolutely. We’ve already attempted two from 66, and that’s just when the ball happened to stop.
“I think 67 or 68 is reasonable, 69 is a must-have situation. And 70, if it gets back there we’ll assess the options but if the opportunity comes up I think they’ll let me kick it.”
Aubrey didn’t have a conventional route to the NFL as he was an aspiring soccer player and even turned professional in 2017. Aubrey represented Notre Dame in college and was selected in the first round (21st overall) of the 2017 MLS SuperDraft by Toronto FC.
Unfortunately for Aubrey, he never made a competitive appearance for Toronto and instead spent two seasons in the USL Championship before being released. Aubrey stepped away from sports and used his degree to become a software engineer, but his life changed when watching an NFL game at home with his wife.
During that game, a kicker missed a field goal and his wife said: “You could do that.” Sure enough, Aubrey went to a nearby field and converted a kick from 60 yards, so decided to invest in a coach and begin training as he launched one final attempt to become a professional athlete.
The hard work paid off as Aubrey ended up being signed by the Birmingham Stallions of the United States Football League (USFL) and spent two seasons there before the Cowboys showed interest. Aubrey went on to set seven new NFL records in his debut season, including the most consecutive field goals made to start a career (36), most field goals made of 50+ yards without a miss in a single season (10), and the highest field goal percentage by a rookie in a single season (94.7 percent).
Aubrey’s life has changed forever since making it to the NFL, and he’s since become a father after his wife welcomed their first child six weeks ago. “It’s been fun, it’s been quite a change,” Aubrey told Mirror U.S. Sports. “But I’d say the biggest change is being a dad, to be honest.
“Going home now and focusing on that. Get my mind right off football, what I’m doing, and the job. It’s been awesome.”
