Aaron Rodgers’ standing within the New York Jets might not be as safe as he is led to believe.

With Rodgers as New York’s signal caller, the Jets struggled this season, amassing a 3-7 record in the 2024 NFL season. In an attempt to turn the season around, the Jets traded for star wideout Davante Adams and fired head coach Robert Saleh though those moves have not panned out the way New York would have liked.

And considering how mightily the Jets have struggled this year, the organization might look to pivot else after two seemingly disastrous years with Rodgers under center. Should New York fail to turn the season around, Rodgers could be on his way out, if the rumors are to be believed.

There have been murmurs that Rodgers, head coach Jeff Ulbrich and general manager Joe Douglas are all being evaluated though no decisions have been made, according to The Athletic. Additionally, it was being reported that Rodgers’ status as the team’s starting quarterback next season is up in the air.

Of note, Rodgers turns 41 in December and is not owed any guaranteed money in 2025. If New York elects to bring back the former Super Bowl champion, the Jets will pay him a $35 million option bonus along with a $2.5 million salary though if they go their separate ways, the Jets would incur $49 million in dead cap.

If the Jets continue on this path, they are projected to No. 8 in the 2025 NFL Draft, which could put them in a position to draft a quarterback if needed. For now, it remains to be seen how New York will address what has been a disappointing season for Rodgers and the rest of the organization.

What’s more, this news comes just days after the 40-year-old sheepishly told reporters he would consider returning for the 2025 season, despite his advanced age. When asked if he would want to play next season, Rodgers replied: “I think so, yeah.”

Still, Rodgers understands that while the Jets are not in the best position after 10 games, there is still time for a proper comeback, if all falls New York’s way. The Jets’ turnaround has to come from him, which he acknowledged, as the leader of the team.

“I’m not playing as well as I would’ve liked to play, for sure,” he said. “The beauty in this game is it’s a team game. The frustrating part is that if you’re a great competitor, you hold yourself to a standard that’s not unrealistic, and I haven’t reached that standard this year.”

As New York’s starter this year, Rodgers has completed 219-of-351 passes for 2,258 yards, 15 touchdowns and seven interceptions. His total QBR of 52.0 ranks 24th out of 32 qualified passers, showing just how much he has fallen from his time with the Green Bay Packers. That said, Ulbrich acknowledged he would like Rodgers back in 2025, if that’s the direction the Jets want to take. “Absolutely I would,” Ulbrich told reporters Friday, per SNY.

“He’s just so talented and he’s proven over all the years just to be one of the generational players in this league. I would love for him to get an
