Caleb Williams is off to a slow start through the first nine games of his NFL career. The Chicago Bears rookie has completed just 60.5 percent of his passes for his 4-5 side struggling to score in recent weeks.
Ahead of the season, Williams was quizzed on ‘Up & Adams’ on who the best quarterbacks in the NFL are. The first-overall pick named Matthew Stafford and Aaron Rodgers, giving Williams a prediction percentage closer to 50 percent (at best).
“I don’t know how [he was so low], I think it was 46 [in the NFL Top 100],” he said of Stafford. “Where would you put him?” Adams asked.
“I don’t think I can name two, two or three quarterbacks that play the position [right now] better than Matthew Stafford,” he responded. Adams interjected to share that Stafford was actually ranked 42nd.

“I don’t know how he was 42,” he said. Adams followed up: “You’re telling me he’s better than Josh Allen?” Williams answered confidently, claiming, “Matthew Stafford is.{”
The 36-year-old Stafford is having a slightly down season by his lofty standards. The veteran quarterback has completed 66.5 percent of his passes for 2,262 yards with a 9-7 touchdown-interception ratio. His 59.5 QBR ranks 12th in the NFL.
“When he played for Detroit, I enjoyed watching [Stafford],” Williams told Adams. “As I got older and older, I started to understand his game.”

“There are a couple plays where he’ll get a play action and he has the [linebacker] on a string. Like he wants the backer to go here (Williams points), and he’ll go there, he’ll throw it right behind his head at the perfect touch, perfect velocity.”
Considering Stafford plays behind a patchwork offensive line and has been without star receivers Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua for most of the season, the fact the Rams are 4-5 is a minor miracle.
Williams’s other suggestion wasn’t quite as sharp. “Aaron Rodgers, right now in the game, is my No. 1 QB,“ the Bears quarterback added. “Obviously. last year he got hurt and things like that. That kind of varies for the Top 100.” Rodgers ranked 92nd on the list.

Rodgers is starting to show his 40-year-old age for the reeling 3-7 New York Jets. While he’s completed 62.4% of his passes for 2,258 yards with a 15-7 TD-INt ratio, his 52 QBR ranks just 24th in the NFL.
The four-time NFL MVP began to show signs of decline with a mediocre 2022 campaign in Green Bay when he posted a paltry 41.3 QBR.
Williams has not particularly impressed himself. The first overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft has completed just 60.5% for 1,785 with a middling 9-5 TD-INT ratio. The Bears offense has failed to score a touchdown on 23 straight drives.
