Despite her youth, Hailey van Lith has demonstrated remarkable maturity by resisting the temptation to splurge on luxury items.
At just 23, Van Lith has already carved out a notable career in collegiate basketball, playing as a point guard for the Louisville Cardinals from 2020 to 2023, the LSU Tigers last year, and currently for the TCU Horned Frogs. In this brief span, she’s amassed an impressive array of accolades, including two First-Team All-ACC titles, a McDonald’s All-American award, and the prestigious 2020 Washington Ms. Basketball honor.
She’s also earned gold medals at the FIBA U17 and U19 World Cup levels, and an Olympic bronze at this year’s Summer Games in Paris representing the United States. While many athletes let success and wealth inflate their egos, Van Lith has shown prudence by actively managing her finances with an eye towards a secure future.

During a lunch meeting with publicist Alyssa Romano for Overtime’s ‘Day In The Life With’ series, the topic of conversation turned to financial management. Romano advised: “Saving tips…well one, don’t spend all your money. Also, like have a rainy-day fund. God forbid something happens and you can’t pay rent or whatever, always have three month’s rent saved in an account that you can can touch.”
Van Lith responded with a level-headed perspective: “That makes sense too, because I even have had little things happen with my car. And I’ll look at the bill and I’ll be like ‘This is way more expensive than I thought it would be’, so I’ll like refrain from actually getting it fixed because it’s a lot of money. So I feel like that would be a situation would be a situation where I could use that,” reports the Irish Star.

She further explained how this could apply to her situation: “Of course I want to buy a brand-new car. I want to upgrade. But if I went out and bought a new car, that would be a huge expense for me and it’s gonna bring nothing back. So it’s just not a wise spend for me at this moment in my life.”
Van Lith made a strong impression on TCU fans during her debut against Houston Christian earlier this month, ending the game as one of only two players to score double figures. The promising star racked up 21 points, secured five rebounds and seven assists with a shooting line of 43 per cent.
The match concluded with a 78-41 victory, with Van Lith playing for a total of 35 minutes. While she isn’t currently projected to be drafted in the 2025 WNBA draft, her prospects could change depending on her performance in the 2024/25 season.
