Jake Paul’s upcoming bout against Mike Tyson was once shot down by his professional boxing coach.
The blockbuster fight is the culmination of a three-and-a-half-year dream from Paul, as he is set to take on one of the sport’s most iconic fighters. It will take place on November 15 at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, and will be streamed exclusively on Netflix.
However, in an Instagram clip back in 2021, long-time coach and friend of Paul, J’Leon Love, told the now-27-year-old that fighting Iron Mike wouldn’t be possible. In the video, Paul is heard saying: “I just came up with a crazy idea. Do you think I could beat Mike Tyson?”

Through fits of laughter, Love replied: “F*** no.” As Paul discussed the fight potentially happening in the future, Love praised Tyson’s fighting prowess and how difficult he’d be to beat. He added: “Mike Tyson just got s*** he know how to do bro that’s just, like…”
Paul did acknowledge Tyson’s skill, dubbing him a “dog”, but he did add: “I was just thinking, Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson? That would be hilarious.”
The influencer and boxer boasts a track record of victories over several MMA legends in his budding boxing career. Since his loss to Tommy Fury in 2023, he’s taken down Nate Diaz, Andre August, Ryan Bourland, and most recently Mike Perry to move to 10-1.

Yet, when it comes to the legendary Tyson, even Paul acknowledges the stakes are sky-high for him. It’s not just boxing fans who are concerned about the fight; Paul’s own mother is feeling worried about the upcoming bout.
Speaking to Bloody Elbow at a PFL media event earlier this year, Paul said: “She will be there but my mom is very scared actually. Like, she keeps on asking me if I’m ready, asking my team if I’m ready.
“She’s not liking this one, to be honest. He just looks scary and big, and his Instagram videos on the mitts look crazy and everything, so I get it.”
