Kroger is closing 60 stores in the next 18 months, and several of them will shut their doors in August
Kroger announced in June it would be closing 60 stores across the U.S. in the next 18 months, and several of those are shutting down in August.
The Cincinnati-based grocery chain said the decision is a part of a larger strategy to close underperforming stores and re-invest in others, though the store recently won second place for best grocery store. Interim CEO Ron Sargent indicated that the unprofitable stores designated for closure come out to many divisions experiencing the loss of “one or two” stores each.
Though the store initially announced 60 closures, it recently added two more to the list in Houston. In August, ten stores will be closing for good, with more to follow in the months after.
