Patrick Mahomes is expecting his third child any day now, and the Kansas City Chiefs star admitted it was the perfect motivation to beat the Pittsburgh Steelers on Christmas Day.
Mahomes, 29, and his wife, Brittany, have two children: a 3-year-old daughter, Sterling, and a 2-year-old son, Bronze. They announced they were expecting a third in the summer.
The three-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback has admitted that the expected arrival of his and Brittany’s second baby girl made it all the more important to clinch the No. 1 seed in the AFC earning a first-round bye in the playoffs with a victory over the Steelers in Pittsburgh live on Netflix.
“Any day now,” Mahomes said of his baby’s birth date to Kay Adams. “Brittany says I’ve been stressing her out too much this season, so I gotta try to not put that much stress on her through these football games and get that bye.

“And hopefully, God works the right way, and we can have that baby maybe on the bye week somewhere, and then everything will work out perfectly. (She’s the) MVP because she’ll go in there and crush it and what, three babies? I can take a break for a long time and just focus on playing football and raising those babies.”
The Chiefs have already secured a playoff spot, meaning they’ll have a shot at achieving a historic NFL three-peat, having won the last two Super Bowls on the bounce. The highly coveted No. 1 seed, allowing a bye from the first playoff round, would be a significant boost, though.
Kansas City has endured a nightmare 11 days capped off by the meeting with the Steelers. In the last 11 days, the Chiefs have played three games, with wins coming against the Cleveland Browns and Houston Texans, before Wednesday’s trip to Pittsburgh.
Mahomes expressed his anger at the Chiefs’ schedule. “It’s not a good feeling. You never want to play this amount of games in this short of time,” Mahomes fumed. “It’s not great for your body. But, at the end of the day, it’s your job, your profession. You have to come to work and do it.”
“All you can do is focus on the game. The practice you have that day,” he added. “I try to prepare my body all year long for this stretch. Thats tailoring my workouts, tailoring how you practice and prepare.
“And the coaches do a great job of taking care of us on the practice field. We practice as hard as anybody, but they know how to dial it back when needed.”
