Senator Markwayne Mullin doesn’t use a seatbelt In the capital to stop him responding quickly if he is carjacked
A Republican Senator has claimed that he doesnt wear a seatbelt in Washington DC. for fear of being carjacked. Wearing seatbelts is required by law in DC and will land you with a $50 fine if you are caught without one.
Despite this, Senator Markwayne Mullin, confessed his driving faux-pas in an appearance on Fox News.
He says while he is driving in Washington, DC he doesn’t use a seatbelt which he says could potentially stop him responding quickly if he is carjacked.
During his appearance he praised President Trump for sending 800 members of the National Guard to the capital and taking control of the Metropolitan Police Department.
These measures are designed to beat crime in D.C. and the senator hinted he would take similar measures in other Democrat-run cities.
Mullin said If you look at car theft only, if Washington, D.C. was a state, Washington, DC would be three times higher than any other state. And were talking about a city. And were comparing it to full states.
While driving in D.C he does not wear one because he ants to exit in a hurry carjacked:
In his Fox interview, he said: “And by the way, Im not joking when I say this. I drive around in Washington, D.C. in my jeep and, yes, I do drive myself. And I dont buckle up. And the reason why I dont buckle up, and people can say whatever they want to, they can raise their eyebrows at me, again, is because of carjacking.
“I dont wanna be stuck in my vehicle when I need to exit in a hurry because I got a seat belt around me. And I wear my seat belt all the time, but in Washington, D.C., I do not because it is so prevalent of carjacking. And I dont want the same thing happen to me whats happened to a lot of people that work on The Hill.”
President Trump’s claims that the US capital was “lawless” prompted the arrival of the National Guard.
An estimated 800 Guards began arriving in the city on Wednesday after Trump insisted it was required because of crime levels. The president would take over the city’s police department.
He claimed it was an emergency, but officials say crime levels are significantly decreasing. The administration announced that National Guard members would patrol the streets on Tuesday night, a White House official then said.
There were no specifics on the locations being patrolled , according to an anonymous official.
A shocking arrest was captured on video after the unprecedented announcement the Trump administration would take control of the city for at least a month.
The White House reported 45 arrests in the city on Wednesday. these include 29 people living in the country illegally. More than 1,650 people are now involved in the law enforcement operation, according to the administration.
