A scary scene unfolded in a residential neighborhood in Brazil when a blimp promoting Sao Paulo FC had an unexpected landing.
On Wednesday, a video posted on social media captured the moment when a blimp – emblazoned with “Vamos, Sao Paulo!” on the side – began descending into a residential neighborhood. The blimp descended at a relatively high rate of speed before crashing into a building, deflating after the impact.
After the crash, bystanders were spotted running over to the crash site to make sure the pilot and the surrounding areas were not too damaged as a result of the crash. Other video captured by residents appears to show the blimp crashing into a housing complex, before lying on the street.

Sao Paulo FC released a statement regarding the incident and apologized for any inconvenience caused by the crash.
“Sao Paulo FC regrets the incident that occurred with the airship contracted by rental of Airship of Brazil Industria e Servicos Aereos SA,” the team’s statement read [h/t Bro Bible]. “The company had already rendered this same service to the Club on the occasion of the final of the Copa do Brasil, in 2023, without any complications.
“The device was doing a test this morning in preparation for the night fly overhead, previously authorized by ANAC (National Civil Aviation Agency), which was scheduled for the stadium region. The Club informs that, fortunately, there were no serious injuries and is providing all necessary support to the crew and others involved.”

The blimp crashed in Osasco, a suburb of Sao Paulo. It was reported by Globo the blimp had traveled from Sao Carlos, which is roughly 143 miles away from Sao Paulo, and flew over eight cities before crashing in Osasco.
Interestingly, only the pilot was hurt in the incident and will reportedly recover from his injuries after being taken to a local hospital. Of note, the city had to shut off electricity to the area for local fire departments to be able to dismantle the crashed blimp.
Furthermore, the Aeronautical Accident Investigation and Prevention Center explained how it was investigating what happened to cause the blimp to crash in the neighborhood.
“Specific techniques are used in data collection, conducted by qualified and accredited personnel who collect and confirm data, preserve the elements, perform the initial verification of damage caused to the aircraft, or by the aircraft, and gather other information necessary for the investigation,” it said in a statement.
It remains to be seen what caused the accident. However, it appears all parties involved are no worse for wear, despite the scary incident.
