Blake Corum knew from the start that the Los Angeles Rams’ Super Bowl-winning DNA was clear.

Corum, the rookie running back from Michigan, knows a thing or two about winning a championship, helping the Wolverines take down the Huskies in the 2024 College Football Playoff National Championship. The 24-year-old also was named the National Championship Offensive MVP, after finishing the game with 134 yards on 21 carries with two touchdowns in the win.

Now with the Rams, the third round pick understands Los Angeles’ championship pedigree after seeing it first hand in the offseason. Speaking exclusively to Mirror U.S. Sports, Corum explained how Los Angeles’ aura was different from the moment he began training with the team.

“I felt that during camp,” Corum explained regarding the Rams’ championship mentality. “You know, we came out a little sluggish, but that didn’t change my thought on this team. I think we’ve always been a championship type of team. The players that we have, the coaches that we have.”

Among those on the roster that he frequently connects with during games are star wideout Cooper Kupp and veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford. Both men were crucial in the Rams’ 23-20 win over the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl LVI, with the two playing a pivotal role in Los Angeles’ game-winning drive.

Of note, Kupp also converted a fourth down during that drive and scored the game-winning touchdown, earning Super Bowl MVP honors. Meanwhile, Stafford completed 26-of-40 pass attempts for 283 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions.

With that kind of star power and leadership on the team, Corum explained that he didn’t think the Rams were anything less than Super Bowl worthy, if all the pieces fell into place. “And so, I always thought of us as champions,” the rookie running back continued.

“There wasn’t a point in time where I’m, during the season, I’m like, ‘Oh, this is really championship team.’ It was really camp, and I saw all the great players we have. I’m like, ‘Oh, we can go far.'”

Considering the Rams have won a championship not too long ago, each player understands that every game is an opportunity for another to shine. And so, when Kupp recently finished a game against the San Francisco 49ers with zero receptions and zero receiving yards, Corum noted that the former Super Bowl MVP only cared about winning, rather than his own stats.

That mentality was shared by each player, as Corum shared. “At the end of the day, all we care about is winning,” the rookie added. “We’re not here to play fantasy football – we’re here to win games. That’s not on us. That’s on them. We don’t feel bad for anyone. As long as we get the W, I think that’s what this team cares about. We’re not into stats and things like that, so all we care about is winning.”

And winning is just what the Rams have done as of late. After starting the season 2-4, the Rams defeated the Minnesota Vikings on Oct. 24, after which Corum said that Los Angeles had what it takes to make some noise in the NFC West once all players have meshed.

Lo and behold, the Rams are 6-2 since that game, as the rookie’s prediction came to fruition with only two weeks remaining in the season. With the playoffs just around the corner, Corum understands that Los Angeles’ destiny is in their hands and the Rams’ championship DNA will help guide the team through.
