Tom Brady’s comment on his personality during his playing days drew laughter from his ‘FOX NFL Sunday’ colleagues.
Before the Minnesota Vikings’ clash with the Green Bay Packers, which featured a marquee matchup between Sam Darnold and Jordan Love, Brady was asked by Curt Menefee about his time in the league and who the source of levity was in the NFL legend’s locker room.
Throughout his 23-year career, Brady played with a handful of colorful personalities, which also included former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick. However, there is one name that stood out to the seven-time Super Bowl champion, which the panelists agreed upon.
“No offense here, but I’m guessing it wasn’t you who was the guy who was practicing the celebrations and keep the Patriots loose through those championship years?” Menefee asked Brady, which first elicited a laugh from Michael Strahan. “Tell us how important it is to have one of those guys to keep everybody loose on the winning team.”
Upon hearing Menefee’s question, Brady replied: “Curt, you have no idea about my legendary personality do you?” The rest of the panel quickly burst into laughter after hearing how Brady responded to Menefee’s question.
“All the pranks I pulled. Listen, I know this: It wasn’t Belichick, it is very important. We had one guy in our locker room: Robert James Gronkowski. You guys already know that – you work with him.” Menefee admitted he should have thought of that, stating: “OK, should’ve figured that one out.”
Gronkowski and Brady had a lengthy career together, spending eight season with in New England, winning three titles. After the legendary tight end retired, it was Brady who convinced him to join him in Tampa Bay, winning a championship as a member of the Buccaneers.
Overall, the duo won four championships together in their 11 seasons alongside one another. Of note, the two have played in 141 games together, showing how the two have built a relationship almost as legendary as their play on the field.
That wasn’t the only moment that made waves on social media. As Brady spoke about Darnold being one of the most-sacked quarterbacks in the league, the 47-year-old’s pronunciation of the word “sack” had fans scratching their heads.
“Theyve done such a good job in protection today,” Brady began. “Sam may have a little sense of comfort, [but] at some point, youve gotta get rid of the ball. Hes held onto the ball quite a bit this season, and hes taken a lot of sacks. Almost 46 sacks this season alone.”
Fans noted that Brady’s way of saying “sack” was because of his two accents melded together to form one. Brady grew up in California and played almost his entire career in New England, leading to a very distinct pronunciation of a previously innocuous word.
